HOHHOT Nike Air Force 1 Low Womens Clearance , China, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- A college from north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region hosted a two-day sports meeting on Saturday, utilizing the snow and ice accumulated over the snowy week, to color the students' sports activities.
Hohhot Minzu College, which consists mainly of ethnic Mongolian students, organized a series of traditional Monglian sports items such as wrestling, archery and Mongolian throwing with snow in the sports field. More than 1,000 students and teachers participated in the activities.
Meanwhile, several students made camels, yurts and other living accessaries out of snow.
The sports activities are similar to the ones that are usually held in winter Nadam, a sports and cultural event for ethnic Mongolians to celebrate harvests and pray for good luck.
The winter Nadam usually features traditional Mongolian sports such as horse racing, camel racing and Mongolian wrestling.

NANNING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- China's 2014 national gymnastics championships will be held on May 14 in Nanning, capital city of south China' s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
About 500 athletes, coaches, referees and officials will join in the five-day championships, which also serves as the test event for World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, said the organizer.
""The event will be held according to the world championships standards to test our work, like the stadiums and facilities and event organization,"" said Huang Hai, deputy secretary-general of Nanning Municipal Government.
Huang said the opening ceremony will display Guangxi' s cultural characteristics using ethnic elements like the bronze drum and xiuqiu, a ball made of strips of silk.
The 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be held in October next year in Nanning.

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Researchers at University of California, Berkeley, have devised a palm-sized robot using some of their creepy findings about cockroaches.
Kaushik Jayaram, who recently obtained his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and is now a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University, said "what's impressive about these cockroaches is that they can run as fast through a quarter-inch gap as a half-inch gap, by reorienting their legs completely out to the side."
"They're about half an inch (1.27 centimeter) tall when they run freely, but can squish their bodies to one-tenth of an inch (0.25 centimeter)," Jayaram said. In addition, they can withstand forces 900 times their body weight without injury.
Using the roach technique as inspiration, Jayaram designed a robot known as CRAM, for compressible robot with articulated mechanisms, that can splay its legs outward when squashed, then capped it with a plastic shield similar to the tough, smooth wings covering the back of a cockroach.
The model robot, described as simple and cheap, was built with an origami-like manufacturing technique, and is now available as an inexpensive kit made by Dash Robotics -- a commercial spin-off from previous robotic work at UC Berkeley.
"This is only a prototype, but it shows the feasibility of a new direction using what we think are the most effective models for soft robots, that is, animals with exoskeletons," said Robert Full, a professor of integrative biology at UC Berkeley.
"Insects are the most successful animals on earth. Because they intrude nearly everywhere, we should look to them for inspiration as to how to make a robot that can do the same."
"In the event of an earthquake, first responders need to know if an area of rubble is stable and safe, but the challenge is, most robots can't get into rubble," Full said. "But if there are lots of cracks and vents and conduits, you can imagine just throwing a swarm of these robots in to locate survivors and safe entry points for first responders."
Full and his students have studied how animals walk, run, jump, glide, crawl and slither to understand the basic biomechanical principles that underlie locomotion, and that can be used to design better robots.
Full discovered 25 years ago that American cockroaches can run on two legs -- a feat certified by the Guinness Book of World Records -- and can achieve a speed of nearly 5 feet (1.52 meter) per second, or 50 times their body length per second.
Jayaram and Full will publish their latest research this week in the early online edition of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
FUZHOU, June 28 (Xinhua) -- A high-speed railway between Hefei and Fuzhou, capitals of central Anhui and southeastern Fujian provinces, started operations on Sunday, cutting travel time between a number of cities.
With a top speed of 300 kilometers per hour, this is China's first high-speed railway across mountainous areas.
The railway will cut travel times between Fuzhou and Hefei from 8 hours to 4 hours, according to railway authorities.
Threading through many of popular tourist destinations including the Yellow Mountain of Anhui, Sanqing Mountain of Jiangxi, and Wuyi Mountain of Fujian, the railway is the "most beautiful high-speed railway" in China.
Hefei-Fuzhou high-speed railway was the most difficult railway to build in terms of topography, with 85.8 percent of the track built on bridges or in tunnels, Ye Bingcheng, chief designer of the Hefei-Fuzhou Railway.
As part of the longer high-speed railway between Fuzhou and Beijing, it cuts the travel time between the two cities from the original of more than 10 hours to less than 8 hours.
Crossing or running parallel to 16 other railways, the new railway will help cut travel time between Nanchang, capital of Jiangxi province, and Hefei from 7 hours to 4 hours, cut the travel time between Nanchang and Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, from the original 18.5 hours to 5 hours.
