RIO DE JANEIRO, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Rio de Janeiro will be transformed by the 2016 Olympic Games like no other host city before it, the head of the local organizing committee said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a news conference, Carlos Nuzman pointed to new urban mobility projects and the revitalized port region as examples of the Games' legacy.

Among previous cities to have been revitalized by the Olympics are Barcelona (1992) and Tokyo (1964).

But Nuzman said the impact on Rio would be even greater, adding the city's residents stood to benefit most.

"Rio will be the Olympic city with the greatest transformation," he said. "It's very clear, and it's the opinion of many people," he said. "Rio's a completely new city, completely different."

The comments come amid continued concerns about pollution in Guanabara Bay, which will host sailing events.

Despite the slow pace of clean-up work, the government says it remains on target to remove 80 percent of waste flowing into the bay before the Games.

Controversy has also surrounded the Olympic golf course, which is being built next to a nature reserve.

"They (the state government) are doing it, giving their best, making the effort to clean up the bay," Nuzman said.

"Our expectations and trust are that we will have the bay and its waters ready to host the athletes from the entire world."

COLOMBO, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka aims to strengthen its economy and move the country forward by entering into bilateral agreements with several countries including China and India, Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said here on Saturday.

Wickremesinghe said the hour had arrived for Sri Lanka to be once again the economic hub it was in the ancient world on the Silk Route.

He further said that his government was in the final stages of formulating the Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA) with India and were also reviewing a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with China.

Additionally, his government is also looking at entering into such partnerships with Singapore, Turkey, USA and Pakistan.

"Our end goal is the creation and sustenance of a dynamic and thriving economic hub that will generate thousands of jobs," he said.

Sri Lanka is also planning to regain the Generalized System of Preference (GSP) Plus trade concessions from the EU after it was withdrawn from Sri Lanka as the island nation failed to meet certain conditions on human rights issues in 2010 when Mahinda Rajapakse was president.

The Sri Lankan government is currently in discussions with the EU and are confident to regain the trade concessions this year.

Meanwhile Wickremesinghe also welcomed the decision by the EU this week to lift a ban on Sri Lanka's fish exports which he said is a significant step towards reaping economic benefits for Sri Lanka and will fuel the growth potential of the fishing industry in the country.

The European Commission decided to lift of the ban on fisheries exports from Sri Lanka to the European Union, stating that Sri Lanka now had a robust legal and policy framework to fight illegal fishing activities.

The Sri Lankan government said that it was facing a loss of over 100 million U.S. dollars per year because of the ban.

BEIJING, July 19 (Xinhua) -- China's efforts to rigorously reform and continue opening up of its financial sector will contribute to global efforts to contain risks, said analysts.

Against the backdrop of weak recovery from the financial crisis and policy uncertainties around the globe, a series of conferences were held recently in China to soberly delve into existing risks and possible ways to fend them off.

LINGERING RISKS

Although U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen has recently suggested that we might not experience another financial crisis "in our lifetimes," it is still too early to declare victory.

There exists risks for the United States pursuing a clean-up of balance sheet. Efforts to shore up the banking sector in parts of Europe are still lagging behind.

Speaking of global financial risks, Bao Jianyun, a professor on world economy at the Renmin University of China, told Xinhua that "with the developed economies still on a slow-growth trend, western countries should strictly prevent their financial markets from systemic risks."

Appetite of top financial policymakers is shifting from crisis firefighting to domestic growth in some western countries. For instance, U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is proposing to roll back many of post-crisis financial regulations.

Ou Minggang, director of international finance research center at China Foreign Affairs University, said "the new president's new der. Cheap Jerseys Wholesale   Cheap Jerseys China   Cheap Jerseys Online   Cheap Jerseys From China   Wholesale Shirts   Wholesale Hats   Cheap NBA Hoddies   Wholesale Hats China   Cheap T-shirts Free Shipping   Cheap Shirts Wholesale
