We’ve all heard this, but what does it mean? And why will it get you fitter? Floating like a butterfly means to get up on the balls of your feet and move. That’s right, move in and away, in and away, forward and back. You don’t have to dance around like Ali but you do need to change the weight between front foot and back foot, instead of just standing flat-footed. In a word Float. Do this between every punch combination and you will get fitter, quicker, You’ll be burning more calories and really working your legs.
Technique Tip #2 – Feel the Leather
Feeling the leather is a simple way to remember to keep your hands up. You actually feel the leather of your gloves on your face, so you know your hands are being held high. Do you know the most common error of Fitness Boxers when they start? You guessed it. They drop their hands. Even though we are only training for fitness, not fighting, keeping your guard up is vital. For a start your fists will already be in position to punch. Instead of swinging from the hip, they will punch from A to B. This will encourage you to use your core instead of arm-swinging. You will also be mentally ready – a bit like a tennis player with their racket up, ready to receive serve.
Technique Tip # 3 – Follow Through
