That doesn't mean that you shouldn't do it, it just means that you should pay attention to what you're tossing in that bin, or taking to a transfer station. To get more news about garbage guru, you can visit shine news official website.

Recycling has changed recently, because China is blocking the import of many recyclable items. That means that certain things that were recyclable, now belong in the trash. That means plastic tubes, like yogurt and sour cream, or boxes like for soup or creamer.

As for what cam be recycled, some things can be a little tricky.

In the City of Eugene, milk jugs can be recycled, but juice jugs can not. On top of that, the rules are difference outside of the city.

That's just a taste of what can and can't be recycled. If all of this seems a little jumbled, don't worry, Lane County has an online tool that can help called the Garbage Guru.

It allows Lane County residents to type items into a search bar and found out whether or not they're recyclable. Sarah Grimm, with Lane County Public Works says that it's very important to recycle right.

"So many people just say, 'Well, it's plastic, I guess they'll figure it out,'" said Grimm. "Plastic bags and anything flexible or stringy is going to wrap around the equipment and cause the equipment to fail to sort correctly."

Grimm says that this "wishful recycling" is actually really harmful, despite the good intentions behind it. The best thing to remember the next time you are questioning whether or not to recycling something its 'When in doubt, find out, or leave it out.'
