The exhibit features the work of Nigerian artists George Edozie and, in conjunction with Edozie's work, North Miami welcomed the monarch of a Nigerian city as their special guest.

Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Achebe, the leader of the city of Onitsha, walked through the exhibit posing for pictures and greeting about one hundred people Monday night. Friday discussing the role of art in community transformation.

Haitian artist Philippe Dodard was in attendance as well as elected officials including replica handbags hermes Nigerian American Miami Gardens Councilman Erhabor Ighodaro. Also on hand were members of Oleta Partners including Richard LeFrak and members of MOCA's new "transitional" board of trustees like Judge Karen Mills Francis.

Residents like Alexis Sanfield, owner of the nearby Luna Star Cafe, said they were impressed by the event and by MOCA director Babacar M'Bow.

"This is the best I've seen MOCA look," Sanfield said. Tuesday night at MOCA and will be the first of several events throughout the week. The opening of the show co hosted by the Art History Mural Project and the National Trust for Historic Preservation was packed with bearded, tattooed street artists and fans, in a former mattress store on the corner of North Miami Avenue and 36th Street in Wynwood. Art on display included some legendary names, replica hermes crossbody bag including Ron English and Crash.

The irony is that, if the $40 million renovation of the stadium goes through, the changing murals that make it such a strangely beautiful place will be gone. Luis Berros remembered what it was like when he started painting there in the late 90s.

"It was cool, you'd get a breeze from the ocean and you'd just paint," said Berros, 42. "There'd be like four or five people there, nobody would bother or harass you it was a good place to practice skills. The skater kids would skate on the roof. But God was on their side they never fell."

But Berros won't be sorry to see his former canvas get cleaned up though he hopes the renovated stadium will make space for rotating art shows. "I'd like my daughter to experience a concert there," he said. "And all the graffiti we painted is already gone. Millepied, a former New York City Ballet principal dancer who gained popular fame for choreographing Black Swan (and marrying Natalie Portman in the process), was recently named artistic

director of the storied Paris Opera Ballet. Van Cleef Arpels have commissioned Millepied to create a three part dance inspired by precious stones and their jewelry, following the famous example of George Balanchine's magnificent three part 1967 ballet Jewels.

Balanchine did get the idea for Jewels after meeting Claude Arpels and seeing his stones, but his real inspiration was the music (Faure, Stravinsky and Tschaikovsky), his dancers (Edward Villella was one) and his inimitable creative genius. But Monday's event wasn't about art, but branding Van Cleef Arpels with the glamorous creative cachet of ballet, high end marketing to monied Art Basel attendees. The Gusman's lobby was packed with tuxedoed men and elaborately gowned women who already seemed to be enthusiastic jewelry patrons. Dance Project, a group Millepied launched last year, also with the sponsorship of Van Cleef Arpels making the event feel even more like a commercial. Millepied, small and bearded, introduced his premiere by saying that Balanchine, and he, were craftsmen just like Van Cleef Arpel's jewelers.

Gems Part II didn't cheapest hermes bag rise anywhere close to that level of craftsmanship, much less Balanchine's creative brilliance. Liam Gallick's set consisted of four lighting towers, whose white lights shone out at the audience, and more lighting towers later revealed on both sides the bare stage as set that was a

fresh idea back in the sixties. The music was by Phillip Glass, which together with the starkly colored costumes white tank tops and geometric black and white shorts for the five men and skirts for the three women vaguely evoked Twyla Tharp's In The Upper Room, but without its transcendent drive or exhilarating athleticism. (Millepied said this was his version of "Diamonds" ergo, presumably, the white lighting and costumes.)

Gems took place in sections, with short blackouts in between, the dancers rippling, arching, twisting and lifting each other, in mostly soft, continuous, and monotonous motion. Soloists or duos were often set against the group, but the opposition, and the poses that often began or ended a section, lacked dramatic

or compositional impact. For a ballet dancer, Millepied used very little ballet technique instead, the style looked like an imitation of flowing, release based modern dance, but without the freedom or sense of impulse or weight or detail that makes that kind of dancing interesting. Gems wasn't an homage it was

derivative, without any understanding of what it was derived from.
