Revamped Outback shines with EyeSight safety technology suite

It may not have the wow factor of a Rolex watch or a pair of Louboutin shoes, but trust us the Subaru Outback is no outcast. A granddaddy of crossovers, the Outback has been instrumental in driving Subaru's record sales month after month.

Subaru this week reported that year to date sales are up 16 percent over the same period in 2014. last month and our shopping levels in general are at their highest levels ever" said , senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America.

There's apparently some cachet in transportation that combines creature comforts, reliability, versatility and great resale value. The 2015 Outback marks the start of the fifth generation of the 20 year old crossover and the revamp is a doozy, with cosmetic and substantive improvements making the Outback even more compelling.

It's roomier, quieter, more comfortable and uses less fuel. Those familiar with Subaru's lineup will be cheering that the quirky some would say, downright tacky infotainment gear of previous years is gone.

The 2.5 is the entry level Outback. Included with its $24,895 MSRP are Subaru's full time all wheel drive, Starlink multimedia four speaker infotainment system with 6.2 inch screen, manually adjustable driver and front passenger seats and air conditioning. The 2.5i rolls on 17 inch steel wheels with covers and 225/65R17 tires.

Moving up a notch to the 2.5i Premium (MSRP: $26,995) adds a 7 inch Starlink screen, van cleef red clover necklace replica, satellite radio, necklace van cleef fake, 10 way power adjustable driver's seat, 17 inch alloy wheels, heated outside mirrors and front seats, dual zone automatic climate control, leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and one touch up/down power front windows.

If you're of the "gotta have leather" camp, the 2.5i Limited is the ticket. In addition to the hide seat covers, the $29,995 Limited includes a power life gate and heated rear seats, a 576 watt, 12 speaker stereo, blind spot detection, lane change assist and rear traffic alert. Wheels are 18 inch two tone alloys shod with 225/60R18 rubber.

The 3.6R Limited is pretty much all about the bigger, more powerful six cylinder engine. The top of the line Outback, which has an MSRP of $32,cartier clover necklace replica,995, gets HID low beam headlights and dual exhaust outlets.

Built into every modern Subaru's DNA is the boxer (horizontally opposed or "flat") engine that lowers the center of gravity and enhances stability. of torque at 4,000 rpm. The 3.6 liter six boasts 256 horses at 6,000 rpm and 247 lb. ft. of torque at 4,400 rpm.

A more raked windshield and active grille shutters help fuel efficiency. Estimated mileage for the bread and butter four has increased to 25 mpg city, 33 highway and 28 in combined driving. The six's fuel efficiency has also increased to 19 city, 27 highway and 22 combined.

The Outback's symmetrical all wheel drive layout allows all drive shafts to be equal size, so the drivetrain is balanced left to right. Under most conditions, van cleef arpels clover necklace fake, the Outback's all wheel drive system sends 60 percent of the torque to the front and 40 percent to the rear. But if sensors detect changes in traction, the torque can be equally distributed front and rear.

The sole transmission with the 2015 Outback is the Lineartronic CVT (continuously variable transmission). It has been programed to emulate a six speed manual and features steering wheel mounted paddle shifters.

Standard on all new Outbacks is X mode, which optimizes engine, transmission, AWD and traction control for a more stable, confident driving experience. Hill descent control and hill start assist are also standard.

The 2015 Outback's cabin nips at the heels of some entry level luxury cars, thanks in part to an acoustic windshield, new engine mounts, more insulation and thicker panels where they count, such as the floor and inner fenders. Your mileage may vary, but we found the seats supportive and very comfortable. Our 2.5i Premium had the power driver's seat but the front passenger's seat was still manual. To get a power passenger seat (four way) buyers have to buy in to the Limited trims.

The cabin has been made more inviting and we appreciated touches like the center console being able to store a tablet computer. We think the Outback 2.5i Premium hits the sweet spot in features and price. And here's the clincher: the Premium is available with Subaru's respected EyeSight safety suite, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and power lift gate. The package is a steal at $1,695.

When equipped with the comprehensive EyeSight system, the 2015 Outlook earned the 's highest rating: Top Safety Pick Plus. EyeSight constantly monitors the traffic ahead and uses sensors to help prevent or at least reduce damages and injuries from front crashes. EyeSight bundles adaptive cruise control, lane departure and sway warning, pre collision braking and throttle management. If you haven't gone off roading, trust us, you (and your family) are missing out on (literally) many levels. The new and oh so improved 2015 Outback is a fresh way to rectify that.
