An exhibition at Gongqing Forest Park in Yangpu District will feature nearly 300 carvings of narcissus. Another 1,000 pots of about 30 varieties of narcissus will complement the exhibit.

Tulips, wintersweet and plum trees are also in full bloom at the park. A spring flower show featuring more than 10,000 pots of peonies, tulips and azaleas will start on February 1 at Chenshan Botanical Garden in Songjiang District. At Guyi Garden in Jiading District, craftsmen will display their skills in dough modeling, sugar painting and paper cuts. Dragon and lion dances will be staged between February 6 and 9. Shadow plays and traditional weddings will also be part of the celebrations. Wedding-related items such as phoenix coronets and robes will be on display.

Eight patches of forest in the city have been recently opened to the public. They are located in Baoshan, Fengxian, Jiading, Minhang, Pudong and Qingpu, the city’s greenery authorities said yesterday. By the end of last year, the city’s forest space had reached 107,000 hectares, covering 16.8 percent of the entire city, a satisfactory improvement on the 16.2 percent by 2017, according to the greenery bureau. The target is to reach 18 percent by 2020. Three research stations observe forest growth and the role of forests in environmental change. They are located at Jinhai Wetland Park, Zhongshan Park and Miaozhen Town in Chongming District. A forest ecological laboratory has been established at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Agriculture and Biology.
