But this week, the normally immaculately turned out Laura Benjamin turned heads for a different reason as she raced through the streets of Chelsea with a towel over her head after an emergency phone call from husband, Carlo de Chair.
He had just returned to their apartment to find it had been ransacked by thieves who had stripped it of 100,000 worth of jewels and other valuables.
"Carlo didn't say what was wrong, but his voice sounded so urgent that I ran out of the hairdressers with silver foil still in my hair half way through having streaks put in," says Laura, who adds: "I shall never have expensive jewellery again. It's not worth it."
Yesterday, Laura, 46, was counting the cost of the haul which claimed her engagement ring a family heirloom which boasted a ten carat diamond a Cartier bracelet, a black onyx and diamond ring, a coral knock off cartier love necklace rose gold ring (a 21st birthday present), a mink jacket and her husband's much treasured gold wristwatch.
They also emptied the contents of her handbags, stole a piece of Louis Vuitton luggage and a number of brooches with her distinct 'Laura B' motif named after the Knightsbridge store she has run for 15 years.
Self taught Laura, a softly spoken brunette, has been a favourite of Prince Edward's wife for the past five years.
She has also provided shoes, handbags, T shirts and hats for the Countess introducing her to the royal milliner Philip Treacy.
Laura believes her movements may have been studied by the thieves, who had somehow obtained keys to her Chelsea Green flat. There were no obvious signs of a break in.
Unfortunately, her two black labradors, Percy and Cedric, who might have deterred the robbers, had been temporarily locked in the kitchen at the time.
"They got in while my husband was meeting me for lunch and were gone by the time he got back just an houranda half later," a shocked Laura tells me.
"I am sure they knew what they were after because they did not bother with my passport or a whole pile of Euros which was lying around." She adds sadly: "I shan't be replacing the jewellery. There's no point in having valuable stuff for someone to steal.'"

You would have thought that a man reportedly worth more than 100million could have afforded to pay for his own wedding.

Proud father Jimmy who entered the record books in 1972 when he became the youngest jockey ever to ride a point to point winner, aged just 13 tells me: "The race Hadden won was set up to encourage young riders aged between 11 and 16 because there are not enough English riders coming through. Hadden ran a good little race, although the bookies were on to him." Brixton Adonis started off at odds of 2 1, but the bookies obviously scared of losing their shirts were soon unwilling to take any bets on him.
His soft porn empire is already in ruins and creditors are selling his 4 million home on the Hudson River in New York state to meet debts.
In short he has had to divest himself of all the mansion's contents including the remains of his late wife, Kathy Keeton.
