The company does not value your time as a participant
The company does not value your time as a participant the way FFXIV does. Like, unless you're a premium subscriber (same price as ff) it will take more time managing your inventory and bank as you will actually playing the game. Every new dungeon will need to be purchased (unless yer a premium subscriber) in addition to that, there's the added bonus that they include annual expansions that offer limited information... In other words, I'm talking about new raids, and 1 new zone worth of story for $30.
TBF Final Fantasy is sub only. It's all fine if you buy the ESO sub. With the exception of the weak expansions but they're also cheaper than FF expansions, and they are released more frequently, so when you double the size of them for the same amount, it's pretty competetive.
Shadowbringers The critically acclaimed Shadowbringers expansion has also been a huge success. It's been listed as one of the best Final Fantasy stories over the fifteen years. I'm not aware of a single ESO story has received anything as close to this level of recognition.
Do it I just finished the first part and enjoyed each and every moment of it. I don't feel the need to rush because Ilevel sync makes it very difficult to complete content that is old. The fact that there are different activities than murder hoboing it up, like chocobo racing or racing, is an amazing. My companions who have done many dungeons will never give up even on an unclean slate, and are willing to help whenever you need it.
