The Madden NFL's four most recent cover players

Megaomgchen

We have just one more day before we know who will grace this year’s cover. However, we decided to look through some candidates who could be considered for the honour. Below, we've listed our top three options for an individual cover model and our top three options in the event that EA Sports decides to go with a two-player cover like they appear to suggest they will be doing in the teaser below.

The Madden NFL's four most recent cover players were quarterbacks. It makes sense that our pick for the top spot is someone who can play under center. Bills quarterback Josh Allen is an ideal pick for the latest version of the video game franchise especially after a 2020 season where he elevated into an MVP-type quarterback. After his appearance in the AFC Championship, Allen set career records in passing yards and passing touchdowns. He had Buffalo just one step away of an Super Bowl appearance. He's firmly in superstar status at this point in his career. Bills Mafia would surely wish to see him be the first franchise player to have his name as well as the team's logo -- on the cover.

If you're not planning to pick one of the quarterbacks for the cover, I'm not sure how you can ignore Derrick Henry. It was even reported that there was a report in March which suggested Henry could be the cover's star athlete. Although it is not clear whether Henry will make the cover of this year's issue, it is certain that he deserves it. The massive running back at times appears as if he's playing a video game since he appears to run over opposing players almost every day. Henry has led the league in rushing for back-to-back seasons and bested every skill position player in 2020 by having the most years of the scrimmage (2,141). Madden NFL covers are not possible if you have 126.7 yards per game.

Although you might be averse to the idea of a defensive player finding his way to the Madden NFL cover, it isn't atypical at all. Richard Sherman was the last defensive player to serve as the cover athlete for the franchise in Madden NFL 15 and prior to that , we had the likes of Troy Polamalu (shared with Larry Fitzgerald, Madden NFL 10) and Ray Lewis (Madden NFL 2005) make it onto the cover too. If you're on the lookout for this particular side of the ball for a cover athlete there's none more powerful than Donald who has been part of the 99 Club for four straight seasons. With this in mind the only place you can climb in the game is to finally get on the front line.
